Update  FT70D 2m/70cm Handheld with new Firmware 1.11 from Yaesu to have now full compatibilaty to WIRES X Net. It works perfekt now to access Wires X and change reflectors of Wires X System Repeaters and PI-Star YSF Clients.

The DX Key is now emulated by F and AMS Key, you can connect and put in the ID from the room you want connect to and can store 5 favorite Room ID for fast access.

The FT70D works also perfect with Bluespot FCS/YSF Systems and also with the Openspot/Shark RF for Crossmode to DMR BM and DMR+. Hereby the openspot converts the C4FM from the FT70D and encode its to DMR and vice versa. You can talk to DMR without the need to have a additionall DMR Handheld. Changing the Talkgroups/Reflector can be done by DTMF commands !!! on the openspot/shark RF. Hope to meet you on America Link Wires 21080 or FCS 290 or 390.

UPDATE: New DMR and DSTAR Board AMBE3000 Usage as Dongle and stand alone TRX. The Project is available by DVMEGA AMBE3000 called MYDV. With conected mikrofon and speaker it is possible in very good quality to use D-Star ( DCS, REF ,XREF and DMR - Brandmeister and DMR+ and now C4FM with YSF and FCS via Crossmode in Pi-Star). The Audio RX and TX is very good.

Update Oktober 2018 new 3Watt NF Amp and additional 1" OLED Display for RX/TX MMDVM Data

Add PAM8403  5 Volts (extrem cheap 1-2€) 3Watt Stereo Class D Amplifier Board instead the noisy and RF sentifity LM386 NF Board using only one channel. Using a new 5 V regulated PSU Board with a standart 5V 7805 Regulator, brings a clear 5Volts 150mA for the Amp.. Don t use the 5 Volts from Raspberry, it result hum and noise, own regulator for 5 VoltsAmp supply gives a absolute clear and fine powerfull audio. The old AMP board stays for microfon connection only LF output from AMBE Board goes to new amp.

New small 0.96" OLED Display I2C Bus 3€ for Information RX/TX (CALLS Names e.g.) for connecting the I2C Bus of the Raspberry PI. 4 Wire conected ( 5V and I2C) and acivate the Display on PI-Star Software (Typ OLED). The Power consumption rise up for 15mA !! for Display and new Amp.

Update fist C4FM QSO with MyDV is done

C4FM is not native implemented in MyDV but with a trick in the PI-Star Software, its possible to use the DMR2YSF function in PI-Star. It works very well if you have a mic distance by 20cm ( otherwise in C4FM is to loud). You can access any room ind FCS and YSF System with this trick using the crossmode in PI-Star. Let the mode on Display in DMR on Nextion Display, Pi-star will do the rest for you. The room change must be done in webinterface.

Dongle Mode:

Here you can use the AMBE3000 conected to your Windows PC and use the internal Mik and Speaker from your Notebook/Tablet or PC for D-Star and DMR. The Software  which is used on PC is BlueDV and works very well. The audio from my used Lenovo Notebook is very fine (no Headset or extrenal Mik/LS is used).

The Mike Gain and NF Playback Gain is adjustable in BlueDV. No external Power is used. Combitronics have also a case and a AMBE Carrier Board with smaller size than the Arduino, but with the arduino MYDV and Dongle is possible.

DV30 AMBE USB Stick has arrived.

The new USB AMBE Stick from DVMega has arrived from (delivery is very fast 1 day!!).

It is an USB AMBE Stick wich can plug into a Windows 7, 8, 8,1 or 10 PC, Notebook or Tablet. Also is it possible with a cheap OTG Adapter (3€ on the bay) to connect this stick to a android tablet or phone by using the BlueDV AMBE Software for android. Using Windows need the standart BlueDV Software.

The audio is very fine, TX also on RX, i used it always without a headset, only the native mic/speaker from the phone/notebook/tablet

Using a external bluetooth speaker with "hands free phone" funktion give your phone the needed kick to use it in a car.

The software (BlueDV and BlueDV AMBE for android) supports D-Star ( DCS, REF, XREF and XLX) and DMR (DMR-Brandmeister and DMR+)

also on Windows here with a cheap Windows 10 tablet via USB with BlueDV for Windows.

I remember, my first CB Transciever from Tandy/Realistic TRC712. I got them in the age of 14 years in beginn of the 80er years. Reason enough to find an old version on the "Bay" and bring him back to life with D-Star and DMR.

I implemented the MYDV into it and build in the display. Now its is a wonderful DMR+, DMR Brandmeister and D-Star (all modes) Transciever, direkt into the net via W-LAN

Back to Shortwave and to Digi Modes like FT8 with low power

To get a portable equipment you should think about what do you need really. Most of qrp users use a small leight wight setup with only 5 watts but a powerfull antenna with short package size.

Here my setup consists of a FT817ND (the new 818 its nearly te same), and a selfmade vertical antenna, more powerfull than other comercial products.

The vertical antenna works on 80m, 40m, 30m, and 20m only to pick other coil outputs manualy with the clamps, the length of the radiation element is 4,10m and the 4 radials (lay on the ground) are each 5m (all speaker cable black and cheap 0,75mm), the 6m fishing rood (easy carbon about 20€) have a package size about 70cm (all elements are in). For the explained bands there is no need to change radial or element size only the change the 50 Ohm point (lower clamp)and the resonant point (upper clamp on the coil) is to change. Once you find the points you can mark the clamp points for each band (exspecially the upper resonant points on the coil are not changing on different moutings) and if you use still the same cable, the 50Ohm matching point are still the same (refering on different cables lenghts)

Here the coil in detail.

The coil holder is a cheap waste water tube called "HT Tube 50mm diameter", the coil consists of 10m cooper wire (blank, no isolation) diameter 1,0mm. The distance between each windings are given by the black sorting cable holder (its for hidding cabels on desktops !! 3 small pcs around the tube/ give easy to wind the coil.

The lower clamp give the 50Ohms for the coax, the upper point is the frequence resonance of the antenna, the SWR impendance is still 1:1,1 for the right points. You need no tuner for this bands, so no big losses!!!

I have tested the antenna with extrem low power about 0,5W on FT8 and also with 100W in SSB and it gave always nice reports, an half hour rag chew QSO with UK Stations on 20m in sommer eve and reports more than 599 are no problem. The 100W usage are no problem for this antenna.

What are the benefits for such antenna:

  1. good grounding with 4 radials (each 5m)

  2. no additional losses on 50ohm coax by high swr on cable, always matchable to 50ohms

  3. no tuner needed, the Q of the coil is very high, much less losses as a tuner!!!

  4. < 5min to build up

  5. cheap if you not have anything, less then 35€ incl. the fishing rood

  6. other bands like 17, 15,12m and 10m possible with a shorter antenna wire (like 2m insteed of 4,20 as a seperate changeable wire)

hints: use a chocke by 100W its a vertikal antenna !!
